Financial assistance is available to BMI students in several forms: Tuition waivers, Scholarships, Assistantships (teaching and research), paid internships at industry partners, etc. Women and students that are from historically excluded backgrounds (including international students) are encouraged to apply to programs that you are eligible for.
Financial Aid
Students of the program may apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. For more information, please go to the SDSU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
Non-Resident Tuition Waiver (NRTW)
California law provides for specific exceptions to nonresident tuition. A full list of exceptions is available on the CSU Residency for Tuition Purposes webpage.
If you do not meet the eligibility requirements for California residency for tuition purposes, you may qualify for an exemption from nonresident tuition commonly known as AB 540. Please review the California Nonresident Tuition Exemption web page for detailed information on the eligibility requirements.
NOTE: Students who qualify for this exemption may also be eligible to apply for and receive funds from certain state and institutional financial assistance programs through the California Dream Act.
Scholarships & Tuition Waivers
Numerous scholarships and tuition waivers are available for BMI students via the Graduate College – for more information, please directly visit their website.
Teaching Assistantships/Research Assistantships
Two types of assistantships are available to qualified BMI students. This includes any BMI student who is eligible to work on campus so, for instance, international students holding an F-1 visa can hold these positions. Please directly contact your advisor, or the BMI Director for more information.
Money Matters
SDSU maintains an up-to-date financial reference guide for all students, which is published every semester. Please refer to this page for estimating costs of attendance.
